Elevated Working Platform (EWP)

NZQA Unit Standard (Theory) 23966 & Unit Standards 23960 & 23962 (Practicals).

This course is designed to help you to demonstrate a solid understanding of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and the legislative requirements for their use in the work environment.  

  • Unit Standard 23966 - Mobile Elevated Work Platform Theory    
  • Unit Standard 23960 - Scissor Lift   
  • Unit Standard 23962 - Boom Lift 

Key learning outcomes 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of types of EWPs, their suitability for purpose, and safety features (range: scissor lift, truck mounted, self-propelled boom lift, trailer mounted, vertical lift).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements in relation to Code of Practice and the use of EWPs.
  • Assess the work-site, and prepare to use a scissor lift EWP
  • Carry out operations in a workplace environment.
  • Report faults and damage.
  • Shut down the scissor lift EWP.
  • Assess the work site, and prepare to use a self-propelled boom lift EWP.
  • Carry out operations in a workplace environment, report faults, and shut down the self-propelled boom lift EWP.
