Unit Standard 29315 - Describe the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative in a New Zealand workplace (Level 3, 2 Credits)

Unit Standard 30264 - Describe duties, rights, representation and the regulator in terms of New Zealand Health and Safety Legislation (Level 3, 3 Credits)

This Health & Safety Representative, Stage 1 course will provide your H&S Representative with the tools to be able to become an effective health & safety officer in the workplace.

Describe the role and functions of a Health and Safety Representative in a New Zealand Workplace.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its Regulations
  • Explain the role of a Health and Safety Representative as an advocate for workers
  • Identify the obligations of a PCBU and WorkSafe New Zealand towards the Health and Safety Representative
  • Describe the risk management process and the importance of communicating with workers and management
  • Describe and demonstrate the powers and obligations that a health and safety representative has in terms of issuing a provisional improvement notice (PIN) and how and when to direct a worker to cease unsafe work.
  • Describe key health and safety legislation, documentation that supports health and safety at work and the role of the health and safety regulator.
  • Describe key duties and the application of those duties in the workplace in accordance health and safety legislation.
  • Describe key roles in terms of worker participation and engagement in relation to the HSWA.

Our health and safety representative trainers are from high risk industries and have vast experience in the practical use of hazard identification and risk management.  We conduct serious harm investigations using the ICAM tool for client organisations.
