NZQA Unit Standard 18408 - Demonstrate knowledge of fire and emergency warden duties in the workplace (Level 3, 3 Credits).

In the event of a building evacuation as a result of a fire, the role of Fire Warden is crucial to the safety of all building occupants. During an evacuation, the Building or Chief Warden represents the New Zealand Fire Service until their arrival and therefore, has authority over occupants of their building.

Key Learning Objectives :

• Understanding the Legal Requirements: Fire Service Act 1975 and Fire Safety & Evacuations of Buildings Regulations 2006.
• Understand Approved Fire Evacuation Scheme and Evacuation Procedures.
• Recognise all types of emergencies.
• Human behaviour when confronted by an emergency.
• Procedures for a safe evacuation of occupants.
• Duties of key personnel Senior/Floor/Building Warden.
• Preparing the building or work site for an emergency.
• Assembly points and places of safety.
• Fire prevention, detection and warning devices.
• Workplace audits to ensure safe and speedy evacuation.
• Maintaining a Visitors Register and a Disability Assistance Register.
• Knowledge of companies own procedures.
• Highlight best practice within industries.
• Simulated evacuation drills (where applicable).

Once participants complete the course they will be able to demonstrate knowledge of evacuation requirements for your workplace or site.

Certificates will be issued and remain valid for two years.less
