This course trains you to understand the relevant guidelines, regulations and Codes of Practice to safely assess and operate a Mobile Elevated Working Platform. It also includes a series of practical exercises where you will apply and test your knowledge of hazards, risk management and operational skills.

- Scissor Lift - 23960
- Boom Lift Unit - 23962
EWP Training purposes:
- Demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements in relation to Codes of practice and the use of EWP’s
- Hazard management-identifying, assessing and controlling hazards
- Demonstrate knowledge of types of EWP’s, and their suitability for purpose
- Safety features of EWP include pre-start checks, use of safety harness, reporting problems and incidents.
- Emergency rescue plans and retrieval systems.
EWP Theory - Unit Standard 23966
Describe the types of elevating work platforms (EWPs), and legislative requirements for their use.
Key learning outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of types of EWPs, their suitability for purpose, and safety features (range: scissor lift, truck mounted, self-propelled boom lift, trailer mounted, vertical lift)
- Demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements in relation to the Code of Practice and the use of EWPs.
Scissor Lift - Unit Standard 23960
Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a scissor lift elevating the work platform (EWP).
Key learning outcomes
- Assess the worksite, and prepare to use a scissor lift EWP
- Carry out operations in a workplace environment
- Report faults and damage; and
- Shut down the scissor lift EWP.
Self-propelled boom lift - Unit Standard 23962 (Required for all other lifts)
Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self-propelled boom lift elevating work platform (EWP).
Key learning outcomes
- Assess the worksite, and prepare to use a self-propelled boom lift EWP
- Carry out operations in a workplace environment, report faults, and shut down the self-propelled boom lift EWP.
